The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch Open for 2026 Season
CARLSBAD, CA — Spring has officially arrived in North County as The Flower Fields at Carlsbad Ranch opened their gates to visitors on March 1st, marking the beginning of the 2026 blooming season. The iconic 50-acre display of vibrant ranunculus flowers is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of visitors over the next two months.
Located at 5704 Paseo Del Norte, just east of Interstate 5, the flower fields feature approximately 50 acres of giant tecolote ranunculus flowers in brilliant shades of red, orange, yellow, pink, purple, and white. The fields typically remain open through mid-May, depending on weather conditions and bloom quality.
"We're thrilled to welcome visitors back for another spectacular season," said Maria Rodriguez, General Manager of The Flower Fields. "This year's bloom is particularly impressive due to the favorable winter weather conditions we experienced. The recent rains have really helped the flowers reach their full potential."
The 2026 season brings several new attractions alongside the traditional flower viewing experience. Visitors can explore the newly expanded Sweet Pea Maze, enjoy tractor wagon rides through the fields, and visit the greenhouse and gift shop. The popular cymbidium orchid display in the greenhouse features over 3,000 blooms representing more than 100 varieties.
For families, the attraction offers plenty of activities including the antique tractor display, poinsettia greenhouse tours, and designated picnic areas with views overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Photography enthusiasts will find numerous scenic spots throughout the property, with the ocean backdrop providing stunning contrast to the colorful blooms.
Local resident Jennifer Chen, visiting with her two young children, expressed her excitement about the annual tradition. "We come every year as soon as they open. It's such a beautiful way to celebrate spring, and the kids love running through the pathways between the flower rows. You can't find views like this anywhere else in San Diego County."
The Flower Fields are open daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with last admission at 5:00 PM. Adult admission is $22, with discounts available for seniors, children, and military personnel. Parking is free on-site, though visitors should expect crowds during weekends and peak blooming periods in mid to late March.
Rodriguez recommends visiting during weekday mornings for the best experience and optimal lighting conditions for photography. "The flowers are most vibrant in the morning light, and weekdays tend to be less crowded, allowing visitors to really take in the beauty and tranquility of the fields."
The Flower Fields have been a Carlsbad tradition since 1933, when Luther Gage began growing the ranunculus commercially. Today, the attraction continues to serve as both a working flower farm and beloved tourist destination, contributing significantly to the local economy during the spring season.
